This is what we college football fans should be enjoying during the month of December. We're not, of course, because the computer system run by the BCS is so wise it doesn't need to be bothered by 4 weeks of good football, it just picks the best 2 teams and they play. That is a National Championship.
My playoff bracket will be based on a few simple assumptions.
1 - It will not include any of the Conference Championship games.
2 - It will be based on the November 30th AP Poll top 16 teams.
3 - It's a 4 week tournament, reseed at the end of each round.
4 - Semi-Nuetral (Regional) fields. This way some of the smaller bowls could still get their revenue. Similar to NCAA Basketball. (Could even do some double headers, who wouldn't want that?)
Here's Week 1 Matchups - Saturday December 6th, 2008
#1 - Alabama Crimson Tide vs #16 - Oregon Ducks
#2 - Florida Gators vs #15 - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
#3 - Texas Longhorns vs #14 - Oklahoma State Cowboys
#4 - Oklahoma Sooners vs #13 - Cincinatti Bearcats
#5 - USC Trojans vs #12 - Ball State Cardinals (poor Ball State!)
#6 - Penn State Nittany Lions vs #11 - TCU Horned Frogs
#7 - Utah Utes vs #10 - Ohio State Buckeyes
#8 - Texas Tech Red Raiders vs #9 - Boise State Broncos
How many of you guys would sit around all day and watch this thing unfold?
How much money would these schools, the sponsers and the stations make just in this round alone?
Don't forget we'd still have a #17 - #32 NIT style tournament, that would have some great games as well. I'll post that one later.
What if the NFL had a BCS? Here are the last 8 Super Bowl winners and whether they would have represented their conference in the Superbowl under the BCS.
2008 - New York Giants - BCS would have had the Cowboys.
2007 - Indianapolis Colts - BCS would have had the Chargers.
2006 - Pittsburgh Steelers - BCS would have had the Colts.
2005 - New England Patriots - BCS would have had the Steelers.
2004 - New England Patriots - Patriots would still be there.
2003 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - BCS would have had the Packers.
2002 - New England Patriots - BCS would have had the Steelers.
2001 - Baltimore Ravens - BCS would have had the Titans.
2000 - St. Louis Rams - Rams would have still had it.
So only 2 of the last 8 years would the BCS computers have picked the correct Super Bowl winner. 25% of the time. That's terrible.
We need a playoff in College Football, period.

Man this is a great site! I love this and agree. Why cant the athletes determine who the best is and not a PC? Sounds alot like WWF! Im tired of peaple lobbing for one team over the other to pursade voters. What gives these people the right to hand out a trophy? They should make everybodys vote that counts puplic! millions of dollars are at stake and we should use freedom of information act to find out! Untill we get a playoff we the People should hand out our own trophy to the team that lost the most to a stupid computer!

Great stuff. After the Big 12 debacle the BCS can no longer claim "Every Game Counts!!" because obviously Texas' win over OU didn't.
Roll Tide!
I think the idea of a playoff is awesome! There's a couple things that I would change though. First I would have an 8 team playoff instead of 16 just for the simple fact that some teams might end up playing way too many games as the season ends. If the regular season was shorter then 16 teams would be perfect. The other thing I would change would be to eliminate the NIT playoffs and just have the normal non-BCS bowl games. Love the site man!
I agree. Have those fuckers play all the way through finals. Its a privilege to play football in college. You better do it boy!
